Antonio decides to send Proteus, his son, to the Dukes court in Milan, a decision with which neither Proteus nor Julia is particularly happy. They exchange rings and promises to keep loving each other. Meanwhile, Valentine has fallen in love with the Dukes feisty daughter, Silvia. Politics, Propaganda, and Hate Propaganda is very important issue in our society. The word "propaganda" however, has a very negative connotation. This may happen because people tend to associate it with "the enormous campaigns that were waged by Hitler and Stalin,' (Delwiche 2002). Now propaganda has a different face. It may not be as obvious as but it is used regurlarly by politicians, companies and others who are interested in influencing our behaviour. "Propaganda is the control of opinion by significant symbols influence", (Laswell, as cited in Chadwick). There are seven types of propaganda devices. These have been categorized into a few groups by the Institute of Propaganda Analysis (IPA): Name Calling, Glittering Generality, Transfer, Testimonial, Plain folks, Card stacking and Bandwagon. Using these devices, propaganda can be successful (serve it's objective). "The work of the propaganda (is to influence) large scale and "group conscious, (" it is not directed at individuals. It is directed through many media which can include "leaflets, posters, TV broadcasts or radio broadcasts," (Wikipedia). Verbal statements are the most common way propaganda occurs. It often involves the distortion or manipulation of facts but not always. Propaganda isn't only spread through words, often actions, gestures of even image manipulation can be the cause. It involves anything that may provide an affected version of the truth, even stereotypes. Propaganda can employs prejudice to perpetuate stereotypes and those stereotypes have a direct effect on the propaganda. This turns into a endless cycle. Hatred is the cause for extreme cases of propaganda. These prejudices create stereotypes that then become common belief. Reading Response on “Murder on the Orient Express” by Agatha Christie Essay

This book is about a detective who boards a train to a have a vacation, however one of the passengers were murdered during the night. Therefore, Hercule Poirot interviews everyone to try find the murderer. I really enjoyed this book as it got me guessing who the murderer is right way through the book. When I read this book again a found a few clues that I just read over without noticing them. For example, Mary Debenham says â€Å"Not now. Not now. When it’s all over. When it’s behind us. Then,† to Colonel Arbuthnot. At this moment Poirot, Mary and Arbuthnot are the only passengers aboard the train. This is important intimate relationship between Mary and Colonel Arbuthnot is suspicious because the two seem like strangers to each other. Even though it is unclear what Mary is talking about, it is a bit suspicious as what will be â€Å"over.† When the events start unfolding, Mary and Colonel refuse to tell Poirot what they were talking about. This book made me think of people in general and their identity. In the first two sections, all the passengers seem correct but in the third section, their identities are revealed. Most of the passengers tell the truth about their names but not their profession or association with the victim. Some of the passengers changed their names This book also made me think about justice, as Ratchette was a bad person and kidnapped the Armstrong’s daughter but is found not guilty, so 12 passengers who are associated with the Armstrong family have a plan to kill him to set things right. It made me think how sometimes life can be unfair but is it good to avenge someone, especially if they are innocent? This book shows that if it was for the better, then it is fair.
